Sweat Equity

Though we always work and prep for our Annual Sportsmen’s Night held in January, this time of year is for sweat equity.  We’ve been working towards several projects this year that will benefit local public land properties and they are as follows:

Wagon Train Lake SRA

This three acre food plot was started in 2018 and we re-planted it this year with alfalfa and clover.  Of course, early rains helped us out tremendously and it’s starting to look great.  We opted to not spray this plot before planting and in return, there’s good cover available which provides for other wildlife besides just deer.

During the first part of August, we will mow and that will be a wrap for this project for the year.  This should be a great area for public land hunting this fall and if you happen to use it, we’d appreciate it if you shared your photos with us.

Conestoga Lake SRA

Conestoga is a new project for 2019.  We will be watching the weather patterns and making plans very soon to go in and plant an annual food plot. This seed will be a wildlife mix consisting of several clovers, rapeseed, turnips, chicory, ryegrass, and radish.  We will share this area once it is planted.  This will be two separate plots right next to each other, making up approximately three acres.

Pawnee Lake SRA

For the Pawnee project, we will be building an enclosed box blind that will be handicap accessible.  The blind location as of now, will be changed throughout the seasons by the park office team.  The location of the blind will have different access routes but the blind itself will be handicap accessible.

Our sweat equity in all of these projects will pay off for Lincoln area hunters this year and beyond!

Director’s Cup

For upcoming events, we are sponsoring the 4th Annual Director’s Cup being held on August 11, 2019 at the Outdoor Education Center in Lincoln.  The address is 4703 N. 44th St., 68504.  This is an archery event for all skill levels to compete in a fun and challenging atmosphere.  This event will offer a 70% payout for a variety of divisions.  Registration was made available on June 1, 2019.  You can learn more by visiting the Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center

JOIN US!

If you like what we are doing as a branch of the Big Game Conservation Association, we invite you to attend one of our monthly socials.  They are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.  Our next scheduled social will be on August 14th at The Garage Sports Bar/Grill.  They are located at 5551 S. 48th St., Lincoln NE 68516.

We are always looking for new people to get involved in our branch and organization as a whole.  New voices equal new ideas, which results in better projects.  Projects that we get to accomplish for all of you that come to our Annual Sportsmen’s Night in support of us.  In essence, with your support, we are able to raise money in order to provide big game conservation projects on public land for you all to enjoy.
