Spring Arrives With A Flurry of Activities
There are so many things to take care of when spring arrives. We have to plant food plots, turkey hunt and of course search for shed antlers. Of course, food plots were a challenge this year with the wet weather. The areas for new planting were sprayed with roundup but we still need to spray the alfalfa/clover for grass. Not to mention, break ground and seed the new areas. At this point, it is looking like early fall plantings!
PATH Creates Areas for Youth & Mentor Hunters
Are you aware of the project we completed at Lake Wanahoo several years ago? We installed a blind with staircase on the northeast side just east of the tailwaters. This blind is used by various groups. At this time of the year, bird watchers use the blind to view the bald eagles that nest to the east. During hunting season, the area is available for mentors and youth to use. This is made possible through the PATH program (Passing Along the Heritage). It’s a partnership with Nebraska Game and Parks, landowners and other organizations. It was established to help get youth involved in the outdoors by providing land access to youth and their mentors.
Banquet planning for 2019 is in full swing and dates have been set. At this time, banquets will be held in Lincoln, Dakota City and Howells. To learn more you can visit our events page.
Allstate Helping Hands Grant
Thank you to Allstate volunteer, Brian Barry, for being a positive force for change in our community. Brian gave his time and enabled us to receive an Allstate Foundation Helping Hands Grant. The Allstate Foundation supports the causes that Allstate agency owners, financial specialists and employees care about most by providing Helping Hands Grants to nonprofits where they volunteer their time to bring out the good in their communities
