Sportsmen Night A Huge Success
With the New Year, the Lincoln branch celebrated 2019 with their 5th Annual Lincoln Sportsmen Night held at the Pla Mor Ballroom. For the second year in a row we were hit with snow the day of the event. Not to worry because the community came out in support and made it a great evening. The venue supplied us with much more room than last year and it made for a relaxing and comfortable event. We’re already planning our next Sportsmen Night for 2020 and we want to say Thank You Lincoln for your continued support.
The Big Game Conservation Association keeps all monies raised right here in Nebraska. Through our events, we are able to raise money for conservation and other types of projects in our communities. The Lincoln Branch planted a four acre food plot at the Wagon Train SRA outside of Hickman in 2018. This year we will be re-planting that area and doing the upkeep to make it an even better project. We will continue to maintain that project for your continued use. Of course, we would love to have you share your outdoor adventures and success in the field pics with us if you use that location.
New Project Ideas in the Development Stages
We are also communicating with a biologist from Nebraska Game and Parks to plan other conservation projects at different public use destinations this year. We will keep you up to date as those projects get final decision and planning starts. Along with that, we are also looking at a project idea for the Lincoln Outdoor Education Center. Once plans come together we will share that info with you. We will be joining up with the Association for various events throughout the year that have a lot of youth in the outdoors involvement and we look forward to those types of events each year. After all, introducing youth to the outdoors and keeping them involved will be key to preserving our outdoor heritage.
While introducing our youth to the outdoors is of upmost importance, we also need to work on introducing new men and women to the outdoors. If you happen to know a neighbor or coworker that has expressed interest in hunting or fishing, it’s important to offer assistance. Maybe they are new to the area or haven’t ever had the opportunity to pursue those interests. Take them out with you on a shed antler hunting trip or better yet, offer to take them with you on a spring turkey hunt this year. You just may luck out and realize you have found a new hunting partner for years to come.
Looking for Like-Minded People to Help Us Grow
The Lincoln Branch experienced great growth in 2018 and we regularly have a good amount of people come to our monthly meetings. We hold our meetings on the second Wednesday of each month and we’d love to have you join us. In order for Lincoln to continue taking on bigger and better projects, we need more like-minded people to get involved. New people bring new ideas and that’s what it takes to come up with projects that interest the public. So, if you have an idea for a project at your favorite public hunting property, by all means come out to a meeting and introduce yourself. We’d love to hear what you have to say. We post meeting information on our Facebook page so you can keep up to date on location and times.
Thank you Lincoln for your fantastic support and we wish you continued success in the outdoors in 2019!! Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our 6th Annual Lincoln Sportsmen Night to be held January 11, 2020.
